Formula One racer Max Verstappen engaged in an intense radio exchange with his engineer Gianpiero Lambiase during the 2023 Belgian Grand Prix qualifying session on July 28, Friday. Verstappen ended the Q2 session on P10, just one spot over the drop zone, and after a disappointing session, the Red Bull racer quickly went on the radio to his race engineer Lambiase and lashed out at him for how he should have done a faster lap.
The Red Bull racer barely managed to make it to the Q3 as he couldn’t clock in a fast lap due to the gradually dying track. The Dutch-Belgian racer was fuming with anger due to his performance and went on to rant the frustration on his engineer over the radio. Verstappen said, "we should have just f****** pushed two laps in a row like I said.”
Despite being assured by Lambiase “You are through, Max,” he went on to say, I don’t give a f*** if I’m through in P10. It was s*** execution.”
Verstappen issues apology for his rant at Lambiase
After leading the time sheets in Q3, Verstappen went on to apologise for lashing out at Lambiase. He said, "Sorry to GP for being so on a rant." The engineer was quick enough to give a humorous reply and said, “Slowly getting used to it, Max.”
The 25-year-old issued clarification about his rant at his team’s engineer. In a conversation with SportsKeeda, he laughed and replied, “I mean, that happens sometimes. Most of it is normally or always blocked off. But I think we are both… We can be quite vocal or emotional. But we always solve it afterwards. It's all good."
