Indian youngster and pace sensation Mayank Yadav, who rose to fame in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, is reportedly set to miss the upcoming white-ball series against England at home. Notably, England is set to tour India for a five-match T20I series, followed by three ODIs, starting from January 22.
Ahead of the series, the Indian cricket team has got several jolts, one of them being the absence of Mayank Yadav. Notably, the express pace made his international debut in T20I series against Bangladesh in October 2024, but subsequently missed the four-match T20I series against South Africa to an injury. The young pacer hasn’t returned to action since then.
Mayank Yadav doubtful for England white-ball series
However, his return to the field will be further extended as he is still recovering from a back injury. "He's suffering from a back injury and is unlikely to be fit for the England series. He hasn't even been named amongst the probables for Delhi's first Ranji match of the second leg against Saurashtra from January 23," a source close to the developments in BCCI told Times of India.
According to reports making rounds on social media, the Ajit Agarkar-led national selection committee is likely to make an announcement on the T20I squad first. They are in talks with the International Cricket Council (ICC) to extend the deadline for squad announcement for the Champions Trophy as the Indian squad is said to be more or less same as the England ODIs.
