The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) has approved the stand for India’s T20 World Cup-winning captain Rohit Sharma at the iconic Wankhede Stadium. As per a claim from a renowned sports journalist at Indian Express, MCA has not only given clearance to the stand in Rohit’s name but also for Sharad Pawar, and Amol Kale. Recently, the 37-year-old India opener guided India to their third Champions Trophy title win, which made him the only captain to win two consecutive International Cricket Council (ICC) trophies for the nation. If the latest update gets confirmed, Rohit’s supporters will get another moment of joy as their cricketing icon will be the only active player after Virat Kohli to get a stand on his name at a cricket stadium in India.
Earlier, Indian Express published a report which asserted that MCA received eight requests from its members to name a stand in the name of the star India player. As per the publication house, MCA President Ajinkya Naik was quoted as remarking, "There have been suggestions from members and the final decision will be taken by the general body members of the Mumbai Cricket Association. The association will take this call on April 15, when their Apex Council meeting takes place.”
Rohit will be expected to be among the runs for MI in IPL 2025
Rohit hasn’t justified his role in Mumbai Indians (MI) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. The right-handed opener has scored only 56 runs in five matches at a horrendous average of 11.20. He is facing criticism for his underwhelming form and his fans will expect him to use his bat effectively to shut his critics mouth.
MI will next take on Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the Wankhede Stadium. After beating Delhi Capitals (DC) in their previous match, the five-time champion side will look to take the winning momentum ahead in the home game. MI have played two games in Mumbai and have won one against defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders while lost another against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB).
