Ecuador's UFC welterweight fighter Michael Morales looked extraordinary by beating former title challenger Gilbert Burns via TKO in the opening round. With this notable success, the evolving welterweight star has gained the biggest victory of his undefeated career. He became the first welterweight to finish Burns in the opening two rounds. Before registering the sensational milestone, Morales broke into the game with a 17-0 record. He looked dominant from the start of the game. He utilised his 79-inch reach advantage to keep Burns at an arm’s length with precise punches. Midway through the opening round, Morales received a right hook that created a little pressure on him.
However, in the crunch situation, Morales hit back at Burns with potent strikes which led to the conclusion of the first round at 3:39. With this win, Morales fortified his reputation as a top contender in the welterweight section. His performance against the eminent figure such as Burns displays his preparedness for marquee contests. The magnificent performance is all set to place him in the top10 rankings. After the victory, Morales defied the division and said, "I knew the whole welterweight division was going to come out for me like sharks. Everybody tried to take my head off, but I tell you what, I'm always ready to go and as long as I'm healthy and ready to go, I'll be ready for them."
Michael Morales dedicates his latest success to his mother
Following the courageous performance, Morales dedicated the victory to his mother Katty Hurtado, who advised him to be solid with his hands in the match to extract effective results. “My mom is right here and she said, ‘Put that heavy hand and the rest will be history’ and I just… this is to my mom and she’s here, she’s right there,” said Morales revealing his mother’s advice.
The 25-year-old also went on to credit the new success to his mother. He said, “Mom, this victory is for you, just for you to know that your boy is doing some great things, this is for you, we’re going to go back to Ecuador with a win. This is all for you.”
