The annual event of Goodwood Festival of Speed is set to take place from July 14 to 16 at the Goodwood House in West Sussex, England. The festival will be a special occasion for Mick Schumacher and his fans, as he will take the centre stage to pay tribute to his father's legacy and achievements.
Mick, the son of Formula 1 legend Michael Schumacher, will have an emotional reunion with his father's car at the Goodwood Festival of Speed next month. The 22-year-old will drive the Mercedes W02 that his father raced in the 2011 season. The W02 was the second car that Mercedes produced after returning to F1 in 2009 and was driven by Michael Schumacher and Nico Rosberg, who scored a total of 165 points and finished fourth in the Constructors' Championship in 2011.
"It’s going to be spectacular to run in my dad’s 2011 car, the W02, even if it is only a short run. Just experiencing this generation of cars will be mega! Knowing that he raced this car makes it extra special, and there will be many emotions coming with it. I am sure I will get out of it with a big smile on my face," Mick Schumacher said.
Schumacher will not be the only F1 driver at the event as Esteban Gutierrez will also drive the Mercedes W12 that won the 2020 Constructors' Championship. Sebastian Vettel will showcase some of his personal collection of cars, including the Williams FW14B and Ayrton Senna's McLaren MP4/8.
Michael Schumacher is widely regarded as one of the greatest F1 drivers of all time, with seven world titles and 91 race wins. He suffered a severe head injury in a skiing accident in 2013 and has not been seen in public since then. His son Mick Schumacher joined Mercedes at the start of 2023 as a reserve driver, after two seasons with Haas.
