In a recent development, Sri Lankan cricket team head coach Mickey Arthur has decided to part ways with Sri Lanka Cricket. Arthur emailed his resignation as the head coach of the team to Sri Lanka Cricket officials. These included Shammi Silva, Chief of Sri Lankan Cricket, Ashley de Silva, CEO of Sri Lankan Cricket, and Mohan de Silva, who happens to be the Secretary of Sri Lanka Cricket.

Arthur also addressed a copy of his mail to the Director of Sri Lanka Cricket. Meanwhile, it is being learned that Sri Lanka's series against West Indies will be Arthur's last assignment as the head coach of the side. Arthur revealed that he has signed a 3-year contract with the Derbyshire Cricket Club where he is set to join as the Director of Cricket from next year.

"I just wanted to inform you that with regret and against my preferred option I have signed a 3-year contract as Director of Cricket with Derbyshire County Cricket Club to commence after my last assignment being the Test series against West Indies," the 53-year-old wrote in his email.

"I know that Sri Lanka is a far better place than when I arrived and have helped groom some very good talent as well as developing a team and brand that can give SLC some sustainable success in the future," he added.

In addition to his email, he also took to Twitter to write a public message, saying that he has loved every bit of coaching the great country. He added that Sri Lanka Cricket is in a better place now than when it started.

"Sad that it is the end of the road with SL after the WI test series!I have loved every minute of coaching this great country! To the players and people of SL a big thank you! I know SL cricket is in a better place now than when I started," he tweeted.

Arthur indicated that he did not receive any kind of indication from SLC that he was doing good as the coach or moving in the right direction which prompted him to make that call. Sri Lanka recently qualified for the Super 12 Round but could not proceed to the semifinals in the ICC T20 World Cup 2021.
