Liverpool striker Mohamed Salah expressed his disappointment as Liverpool failed to secure a spot in the Champions League 2023-2024. Manchester United’s 4-1 victory over Chelsea left Jürgen Klopp's side with no chance to qualify for the Champions League and pushed them into the Europa League. The Red s striker took it to Twitter to display his dismay with Liverpool’s fifth-spot finish. It is for the first time in seven years that the Red Devils have failed to qualify for the league.
A completely devastated Salah wrote in his tweet, "I'm totally devastated. There's absolutely no excuse for this. We had everything we needed to make it to next year's Champions League, and we failed. We are Liverpool, and qualifying for the competition is the bare minimum. I am sorry, but it's too soon for an uplifting or optimistic post. We let you and ourselves down." Liverpool finished one point behind Premier League champions Manchester City last season and suffered several injuries and bad performances this season. Although they ended up winning eight out of nine games, Liverpool failed to overtake top four contenders Manchester United and Newcastle.
The Liverpool manager expressed determination to make Europa League their league and affirmed that the Europa League provides an opportunity for them to showcase their capabilities. He said, "We will make it our competition. I am not that spoilt. That we are already qualified for the Europa League is incredible with all these teams around us. That's really difficult and we did it, that is good. He added, "For so long we couldn't even hear the sound of the Champions League, that's how far away we were. The Europa League is absolutely fine. Let's see what we can do."
