Team India has kick-started their Asia Cup 2022 campaign with a five-wicket win over arch-rivals Pakistan on Sunday at the Dubai International Stadium. With the win, India have boosted their quest for a record eighth Asia Cup title.

Indian pacers dismissed Pakistan on 147 runs with one ball remaining as Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Hardik Pandya picked four and three wickets, respectively. However, Pakistan's Haris Rauf and Shahnawaz Dahani smashed Indian bowlers at the end to take their team's score to a modest total.

Due to the death over exploits, many cricket experts are questioning Team India selectors' move to not pick Mohammed Shami for the Asia Cup 2022. Former Indian pacer and member of the 1983 World Cup-winning team Madan Lal has expressed his views over Shami's absence from the Asia Cup 2022.

Madan Lal told Sportskeeda, " Shami should definitely be in the team for the T20 World Cup. He’s our best bowler after Bumrah. I would look for a bowler who could get me wickets. I don’t want bowlers who would only look to contain runs. Batters will keep scoring runs in this format. The only way to stem the flow of runs is to take wickets. "

Madan Lal even warned the Indian selectors to not make a 'big mistake' by not picking Mohammed Shami for the T20 World Cup 2022. He said, " The Indian selectors will make a big mistake if they don’t pick Shami. He’s a great bowler and has done well in Australia in the past. I don’t understand why they are not picking him for T20s. You think he’s not a better bowler than those who are playing now? He’s one of the best bowlers in world cricket."
