Indian pacers are on fire in the fifth rescheduled Test between India and England. While Jasprit Bumrah removed the top three batters, Mohammed Siraj took the important wicket of Joe Root. Shardul Thakur also chipped in with the wicket of Ben Stokes. But among all, Mohammed Shami worked the hardest.
Although the right-arm quick got only one wicket (of Jack Leach), he toiled really hard. On Day 2, Mohammed Shami bowled 13 overs in his spell. He then came back on Day 3 with even more intensity and bowled non-stop 18 overs. While Shami’s body easily managed the workload, his shoes could not last long enough. The pacer’s shoes were torn up and had to be replaced. Mohammed Shami asked for a new pair of shoes in the middle of his spell.
Bairstow keeps England alive!
England looked done and dusted when they lost five wickets within 100 runs. Their main man, Joe Root was also dismissed early and it looked like England will end up giving a slender first-innings lead to India. But Jonny Bairstow had completely different plans. The swashbuckling batter not only counterattacked but scored a brilliant century after facing some sledging from Virat Kohli.
From being 16 off 65, Bairstow flew to 101* off 120 in no time. The right-handed batter kept attacking the Indian bowlers to keep England alive in the contest. Bairstow spared no bowler and even took on Mohammed Shami and Bumrah. On the back of Bairstow’s heroics, England were dreaming of getting as close to India's total as possible but eventually, it was Mohammed Shami who removed him.
