On Monday, February 10, Monza reappointed legendary Italian centre-back Alessandro Nesta as their manager just seven weeks after sacking him from the role, replacing him with Salvatore Bocchetti. But, the ex-Hellas Verona coach was relieved of his duties this morning after Monza lost to Lazio with a 5-0 scoreline last night, which left them eight points from safety in the 20th and final place in the Serie A standings.
Notably, during the last couple of months, Salvatore Bocchetti was in charge of seven Serie A matches for Monza after signing a contract until June 2027, winning one and losing six of them, which led to his demise in favour of Alessandro Nesta. The club also exited the Coppa Italia under Salvatore Bocchetti after losing to Bologna 4-0 in the round of 16 clash, which was played away at Stadio Renato Dall’Ara.
We officially announce the return of Alessandro Nesta to lead the team again: Monza
His replacement, Alessandro Nesta had become the manager of Monza for the first-time in July last year, which was also his first managerial job in the Serie A, and it ended with the team winning only one game in 17 in the Italian top flight. Monza said in their official statement, “We decided to exempt Salvatore Bocchetti from his duties as a coach for the first team, and we thank him for his efforts and we wish him success in his career, and we officially announce the return of Alessandro Nesta to lead the team again, good luck Alessandro.”
On his second coming to Monza, Alessandro Nesta will be managing his first game for the club against Lecce on Sunday, February 16, at the Stadio Brianteo. Moreover, Monza have accumulated just 13 points in 24 matches this season with two wins, and they will be needing a massive change, to steer themselves clear of relegation with just over three months of football remaining in the ongoing season.
