Former India captain MS Dhoni led the Men in Blue to a historic World Cup in the summer of 2011 and cemented his place in the pantheon of Indian cricket. The Ranchi-born wicketkeeper-batter scored a scintillating 91 in the final against Sri Lanka and hit the winning six to end a 28-year long winless drought at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

With this year also being a World Cup year, Dhoni, in partnership with Oreo, has decided to recreate the winning spirit from that year by bringing back 2011. In a promotional video, Dhoni announced that he is going to re-introduce his hairstyle from the 2011 World Cup as lucky charm for the Indian cricket team ahead of the 2022 T20 World Cup in Australia later this month.

Throughout his career, Dhoni has been known for experimenting with his hairstyle. The Chennai Super Kings captain has been winning hearts with his explosive, 200 IQ captaincy skills packaged with calm demeanour batting but his hairstyle receive the same or even more love and attention as his on-field performance.

Like English footballing legend David Beckham, one can also equate crucial moments of MS Dhoni’s career with his iconic hairstyle. To start things off, MS Dhoni made his first appearance with this long-hair warrior-like look which was also present in the 2007 T20 World Cup which India won.

Then came the short-hair phase, where the Men in Blue won in Australia and became the number one Test nation. This was followed by an era-appropriate look with slightly spiked-up hair which saw India through to the 2011 World Cup. But after this win, Dhoni decided to opt for a buzzcut style. Later through the years, we have seen Dhoni sport a Mowhawk and a few other out-of-ordinary hairdos.
