After IPL 2021 came to an end, the focus has now shifted towards the much-awaited 2021 T20 World Cup. With the tournament being played in UAE, India enter the mega event as massive favourites considering they have a star-studded squad and players are better equipped in these conditions in comparison to other sides. However, this will also put some pressure on them since they haven't won any ICC event since 2013.
What makes things more exciting for the Men in Blue is the fact that this will be Virat Kohli's final assignment as T20 captain as he is set to step down from his role after the end of the tournament. But as destiny has it, he will be joined by his former captain MS Dhoni who has been appointed as India's mentor for the World Cup.
Dhoni will certainly boost the morale of this team: Kohli
This is why fans just cannot wait to see Team India back in action with the Kohli-Dhoni combo reuniting once again. While it was earlier reported that MSD, after leading CSK to their 4th IPL title recently, has joined the squad on Saturday, everyone was eagerly waiting to know Virat Kohli's thoughts on Thala.
During the pre-tournament press conference, the Indian skipper opened up on MSD's comeback to the dressing room as he said, "He (Dhoni) makes a difference when he is in a leadership role in any team. Absolutely delighted to have him in the environment. He will certainly boost the morale of this team further."
MSD has always been a mentor for all of us: Kohli
"His (MS Dhoni) eyes for intricate details and practical advice will help improve the game by one or two Percent," Kohli added. The 32-year-old also went on to reveal that Dhoni is quite excited about getting back in this environment. Notably, this will be the first time that MSD will be seen in the Indian dressing room after the 2019 ODI World Cup.
Talking about Dhoni's new role, Virat Kohli said, "He has always been a mentor for all of us, when we were starting our careers at that time he played and now he has the same opportunity to continue the same again. Especially for the younger guys who are in early stages of their career, just experience that he has gained over the years and having conversations with him about the game."
As India get set to kick off their campaign, fans would be hoping that MSD's return to the Indian dressing room can guide India to the triumph in UAE.
