Indian commentator and former head coach of Indian cricket team Ravi Shastri spoke about the contribution of MS Dhoni, Rohit Sharma, and Virat Kohli to the growth of IPL as well as Indian cricket. Not only this, but Shastri also heaped praise on the three Indian cricketing stalwarts. Shastri appeared on one of the episodes of Ravichandran Ashwin’s YouTube show ‘Kutti Stories’, where he highlighted several aspects of his career and the Indian cricketing scenario.
During the show, he spoke about Dhoni, Kohli, and Rohit and heaped praise on three of them. The cricketer-turned-broadcaster said, “I think massive contributors. And don’t forget all these players have been able to do that because they were top Indian cricketers. They did for the nation first. So they carved a niche with the people who identified them by the way they played for the country.”
Speaking about the personalities of the players, he said, “Dhoni, Rohit, very similar. Calm, collected and masters in what they do. And very very successful.” He added, “Virat on the other hand, might haven't won the IPL but what he brings is again very different.”
You are boring me man: Ravi Shastri reveals what he told Rishabh Pant after his 91-run knock against Australia at the SCG
Shastri recalled one of his conversations with Rishabh Pant and revealed what he told the young wicketkeeping-batter after his 91-run knock against Australia at the SCG in 2020-21. The 61-year-old revealed, "I knew if I told him not to play it, that was against his nature, and he might play even more of it. I told him look, I'm bored, man. You are getting out in the same fashion. It was actually to Nathan Lyon in Sydney. You know, when he batted brilliantly and he got out, he came in and was sitting. Then, the second new ball was taken, and Puji hit seven boundaries.”
He added, “So when I went to the loo, he was still sitting in the dressing room alone with his pads on. So I looked at him. What is it? All your runs Pujara is scoring. He has hit seven boundaries in half an hour. Puji, seven in half an hour. And then I told him you're boring me, man. Ulta maar na. You're getting out the same way. Get out more dangerously. Now that's what I'm talking about, he then said to me."
