In a recent development, it is now being learnt that MS Dhoni is likely to continue as the captain of the Chennai Super Kings franchise in IPL 2023. While he has been their captain since the inaugural season in 2008, days before the start of IPL 2022, it was announced that Ravindra Jadeja will take over the captaincy baton from Dhoni.

However, midway through the season after Chennai had gotten off to a disastrous start, in an official release, it was conveyed that Jadeja will hand over the captaincy responsibilities back to Dhoni. An ESPNCricinfo report now claims that Dhoni has himself told the team management that only will he be available for the next year but will even lead them in what would be the sixteenth season of the cash-rich league.

While Dhoni had earlier said that will definitely be around in Yellow jersey but whether it will be this Yellow or another is something that fans will have to wait and watch. However, at the toss before this season's final match for the four-time champions against Rajasthan Royals, Dhoni confirmed that he will play next season. "Definitely, because it will be unfair to not to say thank you to Chennai. Won't be nice to do that to CSK fans," MSD said.

The statement and the reports from credible media organisations should be enough to settle the uncertainty over his availability for the next season. The developments mean that the nearly 41-year-old- the most successful captain of the franchise and one of the best in the history of IPL with four titles will have another shot at taking his team to glory and perhaps bid a winning farewell to the tournament.
