When Chennai Super Kings retained their captain MS Dhoni for IPL 2024 last month, the fans once again began speculating about whether it would be his last season for the franchise. It led to the CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan stating that only MS Dhoni will be answerable to everyone about his plans in cricket following the conclusion of the IPL next year.
Notably, MS Dhoni captained the Chennai Super Kings to their fifth IPL title in 2023, joining Mumbai Indians in the all-time list for the franchise tournament. Just a few days after the successful end of the last season, the 42-year-old underwent knee surgery at a hospital in Mumbai in June, and since then, he has been spotted travelling all over India and the world, signing autographs for fans.

During the launch of the Junior Super Kings Inter School T20 tournament on Saturday, December 23, Kasi Viswanathan, the CEO of CSK, was questioned about the future of MS Dhoni in the IPL. In response, he said, “That I do not know. See, as far as the captain is concerned, he will answer you directly. He does not tell us what he is going to do.”
“He is doing well now. He has started his rehab. He started working in the gym. And, probably in another 10 days, he’ll start working in the nets also,” said Viswanathan about Dhoni’s progress after undergoing knee surgery.
We pretty much got all of our targets in the IPL 2024 auction, says Kasi Viswanathan
The CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan also spoke about how the IPL 2024 auction panned out for the franchise, revealing that they “pretty much” got all their targets. Chennai Super Kings signed six players at the auction including names like Daryl Mitchell, Rachin Ravindra, Mustafizur Rahman, Shardul Thakur, Sameer Rizvi, and Avanish Rao Aravelly.
“I would say we pretty much got all of our targets. We were planning for Daryl Mitchell. We thought Mustafizur Rahman would be a good bet at our Chepauk wicket, with the side boundary. These were our thoughts but we were not sure whether we would be able to get them. Luckily, it turned out to be a good auction for us this time,” remarked Viswanathan.
