Bangladesh are looking in good position by the end of day one of the first Test against Sri Lanka at Galle International Stadium. After a poor start while batting first, skipper Najmul Shanto Hossian led from the front along with Mushfiqur Rahim as both the players scored respective centuries to put Bangladesh in a comfortable position by the end of the first day of the Test match.

Coming to bat first after winning the toss, Bangladesh lost their first wicket at the score of five runs in under five overs with Anamul Haque getting out after a 10-ball duck. After that, Shadnam Islam and Mominul Haque tried to take the innings further but couldn’t add more than 35 runs for the second wicket. The visitors were reduced to 45/3 in 16.1 overs. After that, Najmul Hossain Shanto and Mushfiqur Rahim took charge of the innings and didn’t let any wicket fall for the rest of the day.

Najmul Hossain Shanto scores Test hundred after 19 months

After early collapse, captain Najmul Hossain Shanto and Mushfiqur Rahim stablised Bangladesh’s innings as the visitors went on to cross 290 runs by the end of day one of the first Test. Shanto was the first to get to his sixth hundred as he reached the milestone in 202 balls. This was also his first Test hundred after 19 months. Last time, Shanto scored a ton in Test was in November 2023.

On the other hand, Mushfiqur Rahim took 176 balls to score a hundred for Bangladesh on day one as the hosts put themselves on a stronger position by the end of the day. The duo put up an unbeaten partnership of 247 runs as Bangladesh finished day at the score of 292 runs for the of three wickets. For Sri Lanka, Tharindu Rathnayake took two wickets while Asitha Fernando put one in his bag.
