Bangladesh is currently touring Sri Lanka for a multi-format series, which includes two Tests, three ODIs and as many T20Is. The series commenced with the first Test at the Galle International Stadium in Galle from June 17, however, the result saw a draw with runs coming from both ends. However, either of the two sides will aim for a positive result in their favour in the second Test, which is set to be played from June 25 till June 29 in Colombo.
Although, the home side will miss the services of veteran all-rounder Angelo Mathews who has retired from Test cricket, Bangladesh will also have a lot to ponder upon as their Test skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto is likely to reconsider Test captaincy. According to reports in Cricbuzz, Najmul Hossain is unlikely to continue as captain on the longest format after the ongoing Test series.
Najmul Hossain likely to reconsider Bangladesh’s Test captaincy
A source close to the development confirmed it to Cricbuzz that the southpaw is adamant about his decision after all that happened with him in the recent past. And is unlikely to continue at the helm. "I think he will not continue as Test captain after the Test series against Sri Lanka," the source said.
"I have known him for a long time, and as far as I understand he is not happy with everything that is going around with him," he added on condition of anonymity. Although, a clarity on the same is still pending, the Bangladesh batter is expected to convey his decision to the board soon.
It is to be noted that Najmul Hossain was handed a Test captaincy for a year, but the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) snatched away ODI captaincy from him after he had quit T20I captaincy to focus on his batting, despite confirming that he wishes to continue as Test and ODI captain.
