Former England captain Nasser Hussain joked around with Ricky Ponting bringing back memories of the 2005 Ashes run out after Axar Patel’s brilliance to dismiss Mitchell Starc during Day 2 of the World Test Championship Final. After a disappointing Day 1, Team India rocked back with an incredible first session on the second day and managed to dismiss centurions Travis Head and Steven Smith.

Australians tried to build forward with Mitchell Starc and Alex Carey in the middle when substitute fielder Axar Patel had a moment of brilliance. As Strac pushed the ball towards mid-on, Patel sprinted away and pulled off a stunning run out on the back of an incredible one-handed pick up and throw.

Reacting to this dismissal, Nasser Hussain called back to Ricky Ponting’s dismissal from the fourth Test of the 2005 Ashes tour. Batting in the second innings, Ponting was run out by sub-fielder Gary Pratt with an Axar-esqe one-handed pick up and throw. Hence Hussain said, “Getting run out by a sub-fielder, eh Ricky,” and the camera panned to the commentary box, capturing a hilarious Ricky Ponting reaction.

Going back to that Ashes Test, England posted a massive 477-run total on the back of Andrew Flintoff’s century and crucial knocks by Marcus Trescothick, Micheal Vaughan and Geraint Jones. Then with the ball, the Three Lions imposed a follow-on after bundling out Australia at the score of 287.

The Aussies batting for the second time managed to post 387 when Ricky Ponting got run out. Batting in the fourth innings, England pulled off an incredible chase as they scored 127 and won the game by three wickets. Andrew Flintoff was named the Player of the Match with a tally of 128 runs and three wickets.
