Often, they say, cricket is a funny game. The players involved, try their best to overcome the challenges posed by the opposition through their tactical thinking and skills, but sometimes the pressure of a game or tense match situation can lead to bizarre moments. One such incident was a witness in a local Australian game.
The incident took place in a local ACT Premier Cricket Third Grade competition in Australia, where Ginninderra Cricket Club was locking horns with West District Cricket Club. Coming back to the incident, the middle stump was knocked back by the bowler however, the bails stayed on.
Cricket ACT took to social media to share the image with the caption reading, “Things you don’t see every day…. Explain this one from a Ginninderra-Wests game for us, cricket fan - how was this possible? Physics? Chewing Gum? Swollen timber in all the rain?”
Ginninderra bowler Andy Reynolds had already begun celebrating the wicket with the Tigers opener, Matthew Bosustow heading to the dugout, the two on-field umpires looked all quizzed as they waited on the decision with the match seeing moments of chaos. However, as per the laws of cricket the batter was adjudged “Not Out” but the fans run riot on this moment, questioning the laws.

According to Law 29 of the Marylebone Cricket Club, “The wicket is broken when at least one bail is completely removed from the top of the stumps, or one or more stumps is removed from the ground.” Here, neither the bail was dislodged, nor was the stump uprooted from the ground.
