Scientists have named a new species of beetle after the tennis player Novak Djokovic. The same was confirmed by Serbian media. The new specie belongs to the Duvalius genus of ground beetles that are present in Europe. This new variety beetle was discovered a few years ago in an underground pit in Western Serbia.

The new specie has been named Duvalius djokovici. The Tanjug news agency quoted researcher Nikola Vesovic as he said that the name has been given to the beetle due to its ability to survive in quite the most inhabitable and difficult circumstances. Furthermore, the researcher has stated that the new species was a predator that lost its eyes as it was confined to living underground.

"I proposed to name the new species after Djokovic," Vesovic was quoted as saying. "He is the man who did much for this country. We feel urged to pay him back in the way we can."

The news was also shared by the tennis great himself who recently clinched the Tel Aviv Open, his third title of the season. "New kind of insect found in Western Serbia named after me," he wrote on Instagram stories.

Earlier this year, Djokovic added to his list of Grand Slam titles as he won a seventh Wimbledon title in July. In his latest match against K Khachanov, which was the quarter-finals of the Astana Open, he registered a victory in straight sets as he took the match 6-4, 6-3.

With the top seed of the competition, Carlos Alcaraz, already knocked out of the first round, Djokovic can go on to win the title.
