The fast bowling unit of New Zealand will include Adam Milne and Matt Henry as New Zealand have announced their squad for the upcoming T20I tri-series featuring South Africa and the hosts Zimbabwe. Milne is back in the side for the first time since November and Henry was in line for a comeback ever since being sidelined, due to a shoulder injury since ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
Uncapped batsman Bevon Jacobs, who was also included in the squad that played Sri Lanka in three T20Is in December, has also retained his spot in the 15-member Kiwi squad. A number of players including Glenn Phillips, Rachin Ravindra and the captain, Mitchell Santner, are back after missing the T20I series against Pakistan in March because it coincided with IPL, although there was no room in the squad for Devon Conway.
This tour will mark the first assignment of new head coach Rob Walter. “I think we’ve got a really strong squad for this tour and I’m looking forward to getting the team together and getting into the work,” he said. He further added, “We’ve got some good experience in the side and it’s nice to be able to welcome back a few of the players who missed the March series against Pakistan because of the IPL.” Regarding the inclusion of Adam Milne he said, “Adam’s a really skilled T20 bowler, he’s particularly proficient with the ball up front and brings that extra pace and bounce. With the likes of Lockie Ferguson, Ben Sears and Kyle Jamieson out it’s great to be able to lean on an experienced head in Adam.”
Adam Milne last played a T20I for New Zealand in February 2024
Adam Milne last played a T20I in February 2024 and missed the previous edition T20 World Cup after undergoing an ankle surgery. He has been in good form for Texas Super Kings in Major League Cricket (MLC) with nine wickets from four matches. Matt Henry’s last appearance was in ICC Champions Trophy 2025, where he was the leading wicket taker of the tournament. He scalped 10 wickets from the four games that he was a part of.
