Regular skipper Kane Williamson, and experienced pacer Tim Southee have been rested for the white-ball series against India, starting from January 18, 2023. Notably, New Zealand Cricket announced its squad for the three-ODIs in India, while the T20I squad will be announced later in January.

Prolific batter Kane Williamson, Tim Southee along with coaches Gary Stead and Shane Jurgensen, have been rested from India tour as an attempt to manage their workload. According to New Zealand Cricket, head coach Gary Stead, bowling coach Shane Jurgensen and newly appointed Test captain Tim Southee will return home after the Pakistan tour along with Williamson to prepare for the home Test series against England in February 2023.

Meanwhile, Tom Latham have been named captain for the ODI series against India, with left-hander Mark Chapman and Otago Volts pace bowler Jacob Duffy earning call-ups. “Luke Ronchi will take over as head coach for the three-game ODI (January 18, 21, 24) and T20Is (January 27, 29, February 1) series in India, and will get an assistance from NZC network coaches Bob Carter and Paul Wiseman,” read statement from NZC.

The squad for the T20I series against India will be named in the week of January 9, after the opening rounds of the Dream11 Super Smash. However, Kyle Jamieson was unavailable for selection as he continues his recovery from a back injury.

The 26-year-old, Henry Shipley, got the national call on the back of impressive performance in the domestic scene in past few seasons. Shipley was the leading wicket-taker in last season’s Dream11 Super Smash and is currently joint-second on the Ford Trophy wicket-taking table after claiming a hat-trick against the Wellington Firebirds in November.
