India’s boxing star Nikhat Zareen donned a new hat today as she assumed the charge as the Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) in Telangana Police. Zareen, who is a two-time World Championships gold medallist assumed her new role in the presence of Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy. Not only this but other dignitaries including Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee President B.Mahesh Goud, Telangana Minorities Residential Educational Institutions Society (TGMREIS) President as well as Telangana DGP were also present in the ceremony.
Nikhat assumed the role after the state government announced her appointment last month. She reported to the Director General of Police, Jitender, on her first day of duty. During the event, CM Reddy launched the CM’s Cup and encouraged sports talent across the state. He also hailed Zareen for her achievements and said that youngsters should follow her footsteps.

Nikhat took to X and shared a few pictures from the event while extending her gratitude for the honour and the opportunity. The 28-year-old went on to say that she has reached the milestone because of sports. Zareen added, Sports gave me the platform, and today, it allows me to serve in a greater capacity. This is not just my achievement, but our collective triumph. With all my heart, thank you!” Earlier during the Paris Olympics 2024, Zareen faced one of the biggest upsets as she was knocked out of the tournament after a 0-5 loss to Asian Games gold medallist Wu Yu.
