Nikola Jokic is all set to average a triple-double for the 2024-25 NBA season. With the upcoming achievement, he will become the third player to pull off the sensational feat, joining the likes of Oscar Robertson and Russell Westbrook. Westbrook achieved the feat three times for Oklahoma City in 2016-17, 2017-18 and 2018-19 seasons. While he also did it once for Washington in 2020-21. Robertson also broke into record books for bagging it once in the 1961-62 season for Cincinnati.

Jokic’s fourth assist for the Denver Nuggets in the match against Memphis Grizzlies on April 11 cleared the way for the 30-year-old towards the new record statistically. The assist which took Jokic towards the latest feat came through a score by Christian Braun when 52 seconds were left for the first-half to conclude. This year, he is averaging 29.8 points, 12.8 rebounds, 10.2 assists and 42.4 EFF. Following the game, when the Serbian was asked about his new achievement, he remarked, “It’s nice. I didn’t do that before. I don’t know. I don’t know what to say. It’s good.”

Jokic has pulled off three off last four NBA MVP awards

Jokic has won three of the last four NBA’s Most-Valuable Player (MVP) awards and is now a top contender to win it again this season. Along with him, Oklahoma City’s stalwart Shai Gilgeous-Alexander might also win the award as he holds more triple-doubles in the ongoing season than any other three players in the league combined.

The Nuggets’ star player Jokic is highly likely to finish with the second-best rebound average of his career. He will also put career-bests this season in three-pointers made and three-point percentage. He required 73 points in the season’s final two games to touch his scoring average to 30.0 for the season. Nuggets will play the finale at Houston on April 13. If he does that successfully, it will be the third 30-point triple-double average in the history of NBA.
