Sunil Gavaskar is known for his outspoken nature and bold comments. The former India cricketer does not shy away from making tough remarks on any player. This also results in a lot of backlashes from fans. The same happened on the day of Shane Warne's demise. Gavaskar made a comment on where he rates Warne in his book of best spinners which felt inappropriate to many users. However, there were also a few supporters of Gavaskar.

While talking to India Today in the show for the Australian cricketer, Gavaskar said he found the news of Warne's demise a 'big shock'. He also pointed out that the Australian leggie left the world too soon. But when the panelist asked if he rates Shane Warne at the top in his book of World's best spinners, Gavaskar did not hesitate to say 'No, I don't'.

Rajdeep Sardesai asked Gavaskar "Would you say, in your cricketing times, he is the greatest spinner that you have seen?". To this, the former India captain was bold enough to say "No, I wouldn't say that no. For me the Indian spinners and Muttiah Muralitharan were better than Shane Warne". He also explained the reason behind his remark.

"Look at Shane Warne's record against India. It was pretty ordinary. In India, he got five wickets only once in Nagpur, and that too because Zaheer Khan swung wildly against him to give him a fifer. Because he did not have much success against Indian players who were very good players of spin, I don't think I would call him the greatest. Muttiah Muralitharan with a greater success he had against India, I would rank him over Warne in my book," added Gavaskar.

Twitter reacts!

This comment from Gavaskar felt insensitive to a section of Twitter users. A user with the name Vijay Arumugam pointed out that "On a day of someone's passing, this isn't the most appropriate thing to say" while sharing the video. "Gavaskar has become a bitter man & is allowing his prejudices to get the better of him. On a day of someone's passing, this isn't the most appropriate thing to say. This isn't a day to dissect his record & find a hole. Poor from a great cricketer, who ought to know better," the user wrote.
