The Serbian tennis star Novak Djokovic, who defeated Daniil Medvedev in US Open men’s singles final in straight sets on September 10, Sunday, has returned to the World No. 1 spot in the live ranking from the ATP. In the women’s singles, Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus, has finally ascended to the World No. 1 spot in the WTA live rankings, even after suffering a tough defeat in three sets against Coco Gauff in the US Open final on September 9, Saturday.

Novak Djokovic was confirmed to reach the number one ranking, irrespective of the result in the men’s singles final of the US Open, after defeating Ben Shelton in the last four on September 8, Friday. But, with his record equalling 24th Grand Slam victory at the Flushing Meadows, the 38-year-old consolidated his position as the World No. 1 player, accumulating 11.975 ranking points as per the ATP, leaving the Spainard Carlos Alcaraz behind in second place by 3260 points.

The Russian Daniil Medvedev, who was the runner-up in the men’s singles of the US Open, has 7280 points to his tally, which keeps him in World No. 3 on the ATP rankings. Meanwhile, Holger Rune from Denmark is in fourth place with 4710 points, closely followed by the fifth-place holder Stefanos Tsitsipas of Greece with 4615 points.

Switching gears to the WTA women’s singles rankings, Aryna Sabalenka trumped the 75-week long reign of Iga Swiatek at the top spot, to become the new World No. 1 player. Even after losing the women’s singles final at the US Open, she has a lead of 1071 points in the WTA live rankings over her Polish competitor, with 9266 points to her tally.

The new women’s singles champion at the US Open, Coco Gauff  of the United States of America, reached a career high World No. 3 ranking with 6165 points, after her scintillating run during the hard-court season in her home country. Elena Rybakina of Kazakhstan holds fourth place in the ranking with 5790 points, while Jessica Pegula of the United States of America is very closely following her with 5755 points on the live rankings in fifth place.
