More than 40,000 women in Ahmedabad will get free passes for opening ceremony and the first match of the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 in Ahmedabad. According to the reports, the government officials have planned to take 40,000 women to the world’s largest cricket stadium, the Narendra Modi Stadium for the inaugural match of the tournament preceded by a grand opening ceremony.

As per the reports published by Divya Bhaskar, the officials sent WhatsApp invitations to each ward across the city, where a total of 800 women from each ward were invited to attend the match as well as the opening ceremony that will be hosted on October 4, Wednesday. The step was taken after the match tickets of several matches got sold out within a few minutes.

If the reports are to be believed, the officials made it clear that the offer is for women only, and to register themselves for the same, they will be required to send across their name, address and mobile number over WhatsApp to the general secretary of the ward. Not only this, but the registrants were also instructed to reach the match themselves.

Apart from the match passes, women attending the match will also receive two tokens for tea, one token for snacks and one for food packets. It is to be noted that the opening ceremony will kick off at 6:30 pm on Wednesday, before reigning champions England take on 2019 runners-up New Zealand on October 15.
