When the captain of Australia, Pat Cummins, won the toss in the CWC 2023 Final, he decided to field first on a pitch which the experts considered quite decent for batting. Although Rohit Sharma started the Indian innings in his attacking ways, his partner Shubman Gill was dismissed for four runs in seven balls, trying to execute the pull shot off Mitchell Starc, but only managing to find Adam Zampa at mid-on.

Shortly afterward, Rohit Sharma, who had scored 47 off 31 with four fours and three sixes, perished off the bowling of Glenn Maxwell in the 10th over of the Indian innings. He was looking to hit the off spinner back over his head, but only spooning it to Travis Head, who ran more than 10 metres to complete an incredible catch at the square cover region.

In the next over, Pat Cummins nicked off Shreyas Iyer through to Josh Inglis for four runs off three balls to put India on the backfoot at 81/3. As of this writing, Virat Kohli is in the middle, trying to stitch together a partnership with the wicket-keeper batter KL Rahul to help resurrect the Indian innings from a tough spot.
