Pakistan were a victim of a shocking defeat against the Hashmatullah Shahidi-led side at the ongoing ICC ODI World Cup 2023. The side after opting to bat first, posted 282 on the board, which was comfortably chased down by the Afghans, with an over to be spared. While several former cricketers made mockery of this loss, including former captain Wasim Akram, etc.

Days after this humiliating loss, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has sent out a statement and urged the cricket fraternity to support the Babar Azam-led side. “In this challenging environment, the board administration hopes that the cricketing fraternity and fans will continue to support captain Babar Azam and the entire Pakistan cricket team,” the PCB wrote in its statement.
The statement further added that the team still has four more games remaining in the league stage of the marquee tournament and asserted their optimism that the team will regroup and overcome the setbacks from last defeats.
“Addressing the media scrutiny directed at captain Babar Azam and the team management, the board’s stance, echoing that of former cricketers, is that successes and defeats are part of the game. Captain Babar Azam and Chief selector Inzamam-ul-Haq were giving freedom and support in forming the squad for the ICC World Cup 2023”, it further read.
