
India registered a dominant win over England in a pink ball Test at the newly constructed Narendra Modi Stadium (previously known as Motera Stadium) in Ahmedabad on February 25. The low scoring Test ended only in two days as India went on to take a lead of 2-1 in a four match Test series. Notably, it was the international match to be played at the famous stadium in Ahmedabad after its capacity was increased to around 130,000 spectators making it the largest cricket stadium in the world.
Talking about the match, coming to bat first after winning the toss, England were bowled out for just 112 runs in the first innings. For the visitors, Zak Crawley played a fighting knock of 53 runs off 84 balls, hitting 10 boundaries but didn’t get much support from the other end. For India, Axar Patel, who was playing the second Test of his career, registered his best figures in the longest format and he scalped six wickets by conceding 38 runs in his spell of 21.4 overs. Apart from that, Ravichandran Ashwin also scalped three wickets while Ishant Sharma put one in his bag.

In reply to England’s 112 runs, India were looking to get a big lead but their batters also failed to score big on a spin friendly pitch as the hosts were bowled out for 145 runs taking a lead of just 33 runs in the first innings. For India, Rohit Sharma top scored with a knock of 66(96) runs, hitting 11 boundaries. For England, Joe Root took five scalps, Jack Leach scalped four while Jofra Archer put one in his bag.
After that, Axar Patel took another five-wicket-haul and registered figures of 5/32 as England were bowled out for just 81 runs in the second innings. Along with Axar, Ravichandran Ashwin took four scalps while Washington Sundar put one in his bag. In reply, Rohit Sharma (25 runs) and Shubman Gill took charge with the bat as India chased the target of 49 runs during the third of session of day two.
