Chennai Super Kings are one of the most successful franchises in history and have a dominant record over most of the teams in the competition. However, one team that has troubled the five-time champions CSK in the IPL are the other five-time champions Mumbai Indians. On May 5, 2013, MI also delivered a fiery bowling performance as they bowled CSK out to their lowest-ever IPL total at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
Batting first, MI posted a total of 139 runs for the loss of five wickets in their 20 overs. Skipper Rohit Sharma top scored with 39*(30) runs, hitting three fours and a six, while Harbhajan Singh gave finishing touches with unbeaten 25(11), hitting two fours and two sixes. For CSK, Ravindra Jadeja registered figures of 3/29 while Dwayne Bravo and Ravichandran Ashwin scalped a wicket each.
CSK were bowled out for 79 runs against MI
Chasing the winning target, CSK had a disastrous start as they lost four wickets for just 18 runs after four overs. However, the Yellow Army couldn’t recover from the early shock and kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Eventually, CSK were bowled out for just 79 runs in just 15.2 overs, which is still there lowest ever total in IPL history. Michael Hussey scored 22(26) runs while Ravindra Jadeja contributed with 20 off 16 balls.
For MI, Mitchell Johnson and Pragyan Ojha took three wickets, Lasith Malinga took two, while Harbhajan Singh and Pawan Suyal scalped a wicket each. This was the first instance when CSK were bowled out under 100 runs in the IPL. Nine years later, CSK were bowled out for 97 runs against the same opponents, MI at the same Wankhede Stadium on May 12, 2022.
