Sri Lankan spin legend Muttiah Muralitharan is celebrating his 53rd birthday on April 17, 2025. One of the greatest spin bowlers, Muralitharan is still all-time leading wicket-takers across all formats in international cricket. Apart from that, Muralitharan is also the first-ever cricketer to reach the milestone of 1000 wickets in international cricket.

Muttiah Muralitharan has taken 800 wickets from 133 Tests, 534 wickets from 350 ODIs and 13 wickets from 12 T20Is in his international career. He was also a part of the Sri Lankan team that won the Cricket World Cup in 1996. Talking about his career in the IPL, Muralitharan has played for three teams in the cash-rich league including the likes of Chennai Super Kings, Kochi Tuskers Kerala and Royal Challengers Bengaluru respectively. He also won the IPL title with CSK in 2010 where he played a crucial part with 15 wickets from 12 matches in the season.

Post his retirement, Muttiah Muralitharan joined Australian cricket team as a coaching consultant in 2014. A year later, the former Sri Lankan cricketer was appointed as a bowling coach of Sunrisers Hyderabad ahead of IPL 2015. In his tenure, SRH also lifted their maiden IPL title in 2016 defeating Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the final.
