Young wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant impressed everyone with his fiery 97-run knock as Delhi Daredevils (now known as Delhi Capitals) successfully chased the target of 209 runs against Gujarat Lions in an IPL clash at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on May 4, 2017. At the age of 19 years, the left-hander looked fearless and single-handedly guided Delhi to a win in a high-scoring encounter.
Talking about the match, batting first, Gujarat Lions got to a poor start as their two wickets went for just 10 runs in 1.2 overs. After that, skipper Suresh Raina and Dinesh Karthik took charge of the innings and put up a partnership of 133 runs for the third wicket. Raina got out after scoring 77(43) runs while Karthik contributed with 65(34) runs. Aaron Finch also contributed with a quickfire 27(19) runs while Ravindra Jadeja gave finishing touches with 18*(7) runs as Gujarat posted 208 runs for the loss of seven wickets in their 20 overs. For Delhi Daredevils, Kagiso Rabada and Pat Cummins scalped two wickets each while Corey Anderson took one.
Rishabh Pant turned out to be match-winner for Delhi Daredevils while chasing 209 runs
Chasing the winning target, Delhi Daredevils lost their first wicket in the form of stand-in captain Karun Nair at the score of 24 runs in 2.5 overs. After that, Sanju Samson and Rishabh Pant put up a partnership of 143 runs for the second wicket. Samson got out after scoring 61 runs off 31 balls, hitting seven sixes.
After that, Rishabh Pant got out after smashing 97 runs off 43 balls, hitting six fours and nine sixes as Delhi were far away from Gujarat in the game. After that, Shreyas Iyer (14* off 8) and Corey Anderson (18* off 12) gave finishing touches as Delhi Daredevils chased the winning target in just 17.3 overs losing three wickets.
