Indian cricketing legend Sachin Tendulkar has his name on the top of many big records that exist in the cricketing book. He is the all-time highest run-scorer of the game with 34,357 runs in 664 matches in all three formats combined. Sachin also has a record for scoring most number of centuries, and is the only player to reach the milestone of 100 centuries in international cricket, including 49 centuries in ODI and 51 centuries in Test cricket.
The record of 51 Test centuries is an incredible milestone by Sachin Tendulkar, and many of the greatest batters are still far away from achieving this feat. Before him, Sunil Gavaskar held the record of most runs and most Test centuries by an Indian cricketer before Sachin surpassed his record of 34 Test centuries in a match against Sri Lanka in Delhi on December 10, 2005. Sachin went on to score his 35th Test hundred as registered a big win against Sri Lanka.

Talking about the match, Sachin Tendulkar turned out to be the top-scorer for India in the first innings with a knock of 109(196) runs as India were bowled out for 290 runs. This was Sachin’s 35th century in his Test career, surpassing Sunil Gavaskar’s record of 34 Test centuries. Muttiah Muralitharan shone with the ball for Sri Lanka with the figures of 7/100. Eventually India went on to win the match by 188 runs.
Sachin Tendulkar is still the highest-ever run scorer in international cricket despite 11 years into his retirement. His record of 51 Test centuries is still untouched by many of the great batters of the world, with South Africa Jacques Kallis coming second in the list with 45 centuries in the longest format. Among active cricketers, England’s Joe Root is closest to Sachin’s record with 12886 runs in 36 centuries in Test. Talking about the ODI format, Virat Kohli has already surpassed Sachin in terms of centuries with 50 centuries to his name in the 50-over format.
