Veteran New Zealand fast bowler Tim Southee is celebrating his 36th birthday on December 11, 2024. The right-arm pacer came into the limelight at the age of 19 years just a months after his T20I debut when he finished as a second-highest wicket taker in the Under-19 World Cup in 2008. He scalped 17 wickets from five matches in that tournament. Just a few days after that, Southee earned a place in New Zealand’s Test squad for a series against England. He is now the highest wicket taker for New Zealand across all formats of the game. 

Tim Southee has taken 774 scalps in 393 matches including Tests, ODIs and T20Is combined. He is also all-time highest wicket taker in the T20I format taking 164 matches in 126 matches. Southee was also a part of New Zealand’s squad that won the inaugural World Test Championship title in 2021. He has played for Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Mumbai Indians (MI), Rajasthan Royals, Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Kolkata Knight Riders, and won the title with CSK and MI in 2011 and 2017 respectively.

Best bowling figures for New Zealand in an ODI innings: Tim Southee also boast a record for registering the best bowling figures by a bowler from New Zealand in ODI format. The fast bowler registered figures of 7/33 in a match against England in Wellington during the 2015 ODI World Cup.
