The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Sunday, August 25 announced 15-member squad for the upcoming Women’s T20 World Cup 2024, which is scheduled to be held in the United Arab Emirates in October. Fast bowler, Fatima Sana has been named the captain of the women’s team, taking over the reigns from Nida Dar.
Although, the veteran remains in the side, Sana, 22, who has previously captained the emerging team, and her domestic sides will take up the helm in the marquee tournament. Meanwhile, the team is similar to the one for the Women’s Asia Cup, Sadaf Shamas is the only change in the side, whereas wicketkeeper-batter Najiha Alvi has been named as a travelling reserve.
Moreover, out of the 15-member squad, 10 players also featured in the 2023 edition of the Women’s World Cup. While uncapped pacer Tasmia Rubab is a fresh face in the side, left-arm spinner, Sadia Iqbal’s participation remains subject to fitness. The PCB has also named two non-travelling reserves for the marquee tournament in Rameen Shamim and Umm-e-Hani.
Speaking of Pakistan Women, the side has been placed in Group A, alongside six-time winners Australia, India, New Zealand and the Qualifier 1. The Women in Green will begin their campaign in a clash against their arch-rivals, India Women on October 6, before taking on Australia on October 8.
