In a recent development, season six of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) has been postponed indefinitely owing to the increasing cases of Coronavirus among players and officials in the tournament. At least seven players and officials were tested positive for COVID-19 during the last few days. The decision has been taken after PSL franchises reportedly had a word with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) officials.
PCB Director to address press for further updates
As an immediate step, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), will focus on safe and secure passage for all participants. The official authority has arranged repeated Coronavirus tests, vaccines and isolation facilities to the six teams participating in the tournament. Meanwhile, PCB Chief Executive Wasim Khan along with Director Commercial Babar Hamid, will hold a press conference at the National Stadium later on Thursday to give further updates on the tournament.
PSL 2020 also had to be postponed in March 2020, later culminated in November
Earlier on Thursday, the PCB had confirmed that three more cricketers from two different franchises had tested positive for Coronavirus. Reports had also emerged that a foreign player, later confirmed to be Dan Christian, has been allowed to quit the tournament and may leave Pakistan on Thursday night. The board did not reveal the identity of players who returned positive results but said they didn't belong to the teams which had matches on Wednesday.
While Karachi Kings had defeated Peshawar Zalmi by six wickets, Quetta Gladiators beat Multan Sultans by 22 runs in what was a double-header on Wednesday. Earlier, the previous season of the competition was also forced to be pushed back in March 2020 owing to the outbreak of the pandemic and was culminated in November with Karachi Kings beating Lahore Qalandars to emerge as the champion.
