The French capital, Paris, which is set to host the 2024 edition of the Olympics, has made it to the headlines once again, but all due to wrong reasons. Paris and Marseille are currently going through an outbreak of bedbugs, creating havoc and panic among the residents. The locals took to social media to share troubling images and videos of the insects, which have infested trains, theatres, buses, and even the airport.

The invasion comes as a big trouble for Paris, known as the romantic city, as they are slated to host the biggest global multi-sport tournament, the Olympics, in less than 10 months. As the situation escalated, the Transport Minister of Paris Clement Beaune called for a meeting with the representatives of public transportation companies to address the issue.

Not only this, but the Paris City Hall called upon President Emmanuel Macron to take some strict and dedicated actions to fight the bedbugs invasion. For the 2024 edition of the Paris Olympics, as many as 5,00,000 visitors are expected to visit the city next year.

ANSES, the National Social Security Administration, addressed the issue and said, “Upsurge in bed bug infestations in recent years has been due in particular to the rise in travel and the increasing resistance of bed bugs to insecticides.”
