On Monday, July 29, the Indian men’s archery team bowed out of the Paris Olympics 2024 after losing to Turkey 2-6 in the quarter-final stage. The trio of Dhiraj Bommadevara, Tarundeep Rai, and Pravin Jadhav weren’t at their best in the men’s team event at the Esplanade des Invalides, taking just one set out of four in the contest.
The Indian men’s archery team were on the back foot at the beginning of the first set when Dhiraj Bommadevara shot just a 7 on his first attempt. It allowed the Turkish trio of Mete Gazoz, Abdullah Yildirmis, and Berkim Tumer to take the initiative, and their consistent attempts allowed them to clinch the first set 57-53.
In the second set, the story wasn’t any different as the Indian trio were unable to find any consistency in their play, which led to Turkey taking it 55-52. The third set saw the standards from the Turkish trio drop a bit, letting India take it 55-54, to stay in the race for a place in the next round.
But, in the fourth set, Turkey brought their A-game to the quarter-final match, notching up a plethora of 10s, which the Indian trio had no answers to. The Turkish trio got the decisive fourth set in the bag with a 58-54 margin, reaching the semi-final of the men’s archery team event at Paris 2024, where they will take on either France or Italy.
During this men’s archery team event quarter-final match, Pravin Jadhav shot only once outside 9s in his eight attempts but Dhiraj Bommadevara and Tarundeep Rai weren’t quite able to back him up in the crucial stages.
