India’s Arjun Babuta, who had a rather disappointing outing on Saturday, July 27, overturned his last result to secure a place in the final of men’s 10m air rifle. In what proved to be a rather fruitful day for India at the Paris Olympics, after Ramita Jindal secured a place in the final of women’s 10m air rifle, his mixed team partner, Arjun Babuta also secured finals qualification.

Arjun finished seventh in the qualifying round with an aggregate of 630.1 points. Although he started fine, adding 105.7 points with the best of 10.8. he then dipped in form as he got only 104.9 points to stay in the top eight. He once again put up a strong performance finishing the third series with 105.5 points and carried the momentum forward to finish at seventh place.
On the contrary, his compatriot, Sandeep Singh finished at 12th place in the qualifying round at the end with 629.3 points. Earlier, Ramita Jindal qualified for the final with a score of 631.5 points in the qualification round. The Indian youngster finished at fifth place, while he compatriot Elavenil dropped to tenth place.
With Ramita securing her spot in the final of the women’s 10m air rifle, she became the first rifle shooter since her coach Suma Shirur (Athens 2004) to make to Olympics final.
