On Friday, May 23, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) defeated Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) comprehensively by 42-run margin at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow in the match 65 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. While the Bengaluru-based franchise were looking to consolidate their position in the top two, but it was the Hyderabad-based franchise, who reined supreme in Lucknow.

However, the result did not make much of a difference for the Hyderabad-based franchise, courtesy Ishan Kishan’s blistering innings of unbeaten 94, the two skippers of both the sides suffered a massive blow as they were fined after their respective teams maintained slow over-rate in the match. While it was Rajat Patidar’s second offence relating to the minimum over-rate offence, Pat Cummins got his first in the IPL 2025.

Rajat Patidar fined INR 24 Lakh; Pat Cummins penalised INR 12 Lakh

With it being a second offence for Patidar-led RCB, he was sanctioned with INR 24 Lakh fine. “As it was his team’s second offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences, Patidar was fined INR 24 lakhs. The rest of the members of the Playing XI, including the Impact Player, were each individually fined either INR 6 lakh or 25 per cent of their respective match fees, whichever is lesser,” the statement read.

Moreover, Pat Cummins, who was penalised for the first time after his team maintained a slow over-rate, has been fined INR 12 Lakh under Article 2.22 of the IPL Code of Conduct.

Speaking of the season, which is nearing its business end, the defeat for RCB handed them a position drop despite already qualifying for the IPL 2025 playoffs. With a 42-run loss, RCB saw themselves drop to third place in the IPL 2025 standings, seeing a comparative drop in their net run-rate. While the Rajat Patidar-led side will hope for a comprehensive win in their final league stage fixture when they take on Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), SRH on the other hand, will hope to end their season with a win when they take on Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on Sunday, May 25.
