With the Formula 1 2025 season moving on to its seventh round in Italy, McLaren has shared a positive update around their drivers’ lineup. The McLaren Formula 1 Team recently announced that Arrow McLaren IndyCar driver, Pato O’Ward will be part of the lineup in the F1 for the second year running at the Mexico Grand Prix 2025.

The 25-year-old junior driver, will be taking over the steering wheel of MCL39 at the Autodrome Hermanos Rodriguez for his home race in the Free Practice 1, scheduled for October 24, 2025. It is to be noted that FP1 outing is part of his continued role as a McLaren Reserve Driver in the pool of reserve drivers.

Moreover, on being confirmed to ride the MCL39, Pato expressed excitement on the move. “I’m excited to be jumping back in the car for FP1 at my home race in Mexico this year. The Mexico City fans were unbelievable last time out, and it was a great feeling being able to extract everything from the programme that the team had planned. I’m looking forward to going again this year, working with Zak, Andrea and the whole team,” he stated, as mentioned in a statement by McLaren.

McLaren leads Contructors’ Championship with 246 points

Although, the Mexican Grand Prix is far as the moment, it is scheduled to take place from October 24 to 26. Speaking of the current situation, the Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris-led team currently leads the Constructors’ Champions with 246 points, followed by Mercedes (141), Red Bull Racing (105), Ferrari (94), Williams (37) - completing the top five.

However, in the Drivers’ Standings, McLaren’s Oscar Piastri sits at the top with 131 points, followed by his teammate, Lando Norris at second place with 115 points. Max Verstappen occupies the third place, with 99 points, followed by George Russell (93) and Charles Leclerc (53).
