Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman, Mohsin Naqvi recently opened up on Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Secretary, Jay Shah being appointed as the International Cricket Council (ICC) Chairman. The BCCI Secretary will take over the reigns from Greg Barclay, who announced his decision to step down from the position after his tenure ends in November 2024.
Notably, Shah was elected unopposed for the position as he was the sole nominee and will assume the office from December 2024. Moreover, he will also become the youngest to hold the position. Speaking to the media, Pakistan Cricket Board Chairman, Mohsin Naqvi also opened up on the next Asian Cricket Council (ACC) meeting, which is scheduled to take place across two days, on September 8 and 9.
There are no concerns about him becoming ICC Chairman: Mohsin Naqvi
The PCB Chair while addressing the next ACC meeting, also added that he will not be present for the meeting, whereas a PCB representative, Salman Nasir will be a part of it. “We are in touch with Jay Shah; there are no concerns about his becoming ICC Chairman. The ACC meeting is on September 8 and 9,” Naqvi told reporters as quoted by Geo News.
The PCB Chairman further went on to confirm that he will not be present in the meeting, adding, “I will not be able to attend the meeting, and Salman Nasir will attend. The meeting will finalise matters related to the new president.”
Mohsin Naqvi to succeed Jay Shah as ACC President: Reports
In a big update, it is being reported that Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman, Mohsin Naqvi is set to take over the reigns from Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Secretary, Jay Shah as Asian Cricket Council (ACC) Chairman. According to a report by PTI, there are high possibility of Naqvi taking over the seat due to the rotational system of the ACC.
It is to be noted that Jay Shah has held the role for three consecutive terms, with his recent one-year extension coming to an end in January 2025. According to the sources, as reported by PTI, a meeting held between the members at the ACC have opted to name Naqvi as the new President. This includes, he will be in charge for the next few editions of the Asia Cup, including the one in 2025, which will be held in India in the T20 format.
“When the ACC meets later this year, it will confirm that Naqvi will be the next President for a two-year term…. When (Jay) Shah steps down, the PCB Chief will take over,” a source told PTI.
