Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) are set to incur huge financial losses due to New Zealand, followed by England, pulling out of their tours citing security concerns in the country. It has undoubtedly been a huge setback for the cricket governing body of the Asian nation in their bid to bring international cricket back to the country.

Apart from all the obvious losses that the board will suffer from due to cancellation of the series, there are quite a few hidden or unknown costs as well which the board will have to undertake. Among all those, there is one very ironical cost for PCB if the reports are to be believed.

PCB had deployed 500 police officers for security of New Zealand

Although the Kiwis pulled out of the tour because of an intel that they received which said that the players were under threat, one cannot deny the fact that PCB left no stones unturned to provide as much security as they could to the visiting team.

There were reportedly around 5 SPs and over 500 SSPs (police officers) deployed to provide foolproof security to the Kiwis. Additionally, even Pakistan Army was put to task in Islamabad and Rawalpindi. With so many security personnel deployed, it was natural that there were expenses that came along with it. But one could not have imagined the figure of food bills for the security team.

Biryani bill of INR 27 lakhs received by PCB

According to a report in Anandabazar Patrika, it has been mentioned that each security official was served Biriyani twice a day, which cumulatively cost around INR 27 lakhs. PCB has reportedly recently received the bill for the same, which they have been asked to pay.

If the figure is actually true, the expense unfortunately did not prove to be worth. As it turned out, the Kiwis were still not assured of the security that was actually provided to them as they left the tour even before it could kick-off. While the board is already very upset about the whole situation, this would just add salt to their wounds if it is actually true.
