Pakistan cricket has once again found itself amid controversy after 24-year-old Haider Ali was arrested in England over allegations of rape during Pakistan Shaheens’ ongoing tour in the United Kingdom (UK). The Pakistan cricketer, who was part of the A squad, was arrested In Manchester following an incident, which is said to have occurred on July 23, 2025.

Speaking of the incident, Haider Ali was arrested by Greater Manchester Police (GMP) from Beckenham ground after a complaint was filed against him on Monday. Furthermore, the Pakistan cricketer’s passport was seized, however, he was released on bail later on.

Haider Ali suspended by PCB amid rape allegations charges

Although, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is cooperating fully in the legal proceedings, but the cricket board has suspended the middle-order batter. “The investigation pertains to an incident that reportedly occurred during the Pakistan Shaheens’ recent tour of England. In line with its duty of care and responsibility to ensure the welfare and legal right of all its players, the PCB has ensured that Haider Ali has received appropriate legal support to protect his rights throughout this process,” stated PCB, as quoted by Cricbuzz.

“The PCB fully respects the legal procedures and processes of the United Kingdom and acknowledges the importance of allowing the investigation to run its due course. Accordingly, the PCB has decided to place Haider Ali under provisional suspension, effective immediately, pending the outcome of the ingoing investigation,” the board’s statement further added.

Pakistan Shaheens were on a tour of the UK from July 17 to August 6 and played two three-day games, which were both drawn, a three-match One-day series that they won 2-1. However, most of the players have returned, except captain Saud Shakeel, who stayed in Dubai for personal reasons and Haider Ali. Speaking of the 24-year-old, he has played two ODIs and 35 T20Is for Pakistan.
