It is no secret that FC Barcelona have been struggling financially in recent times which was one of the main reasons behind Lionel Messi's shocking departure from the club. Having secured some big signings this transfer window in the form of Memphis Depay, Eric Garcia and Rey Manaj, it was set to mark the beginning of a new era for the club this season.

However, things were looking very grim as Barcelona were unable to register the mentioned players. The club had been hit terribly by the Coronavirus pandemic and as per the rules and regulations of the football federation, they needed to offload a few players to free up funds. This is when the club's legendary player Gerard Pique decided to step up as he agreed to take a substantial pay cut, allowing the club to register their new signings.

Barca able to register Depay, Garcia and Manaj because of Pique's pay cut

The 34-year-old, who joined Barcelona way back in 2008, has been one of the most loyal players in the history of the club. Pique's love for Barca is known to everyone and he clearly won everyone's hearts with his incredible act of kindness on Saturday.

"FC Barcelona is able to register Memphis, Eric Garcia and Rey Manaj to play in the Spanish Liga de Futbol Profesional. This has been made possible thanks to an agreement with Gerard Pique whereby the Barça second captain's salary has been substantially reduced," the club said in an official statement.

Fans want Pique to become Barca's president in future

Following his generosity to help the club get out of a financial mess, Pique's status at the club reached from legendary to a whole new level. The fans were full of praise for the defender who has played 364 matches for Barcelona, guiding them to numerous trophies over the years.

The Barca supporters requested him to stand for the club's presidential elections as they opined that the defender would be the perfect man to lead the Spanish giants post his retirement. There was nothing but respect for Pique from football fans across the globe on social media.
