Fast bowler Avesh Khan turned out to be a match-winner for Lucknow Super Giants as they defeated Rajasthan Royals by just two runs in a last-over thriller of IPL 2025 at Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur. Taking big wickets of Yashasvi Jaiswal, Riyan Parag and Shimron Hetmyer at crucial moments, Avesh turned the match around for LSG which was once looking like an easy win for RR. He registered the figures of 3/37 guiding LSG to a thrilling win.
Batting first after winning the toss, LSG posted 180/5 in their 20 overs, with Aiden Markram top scoring with 66(45) runs hitting five fours and three sixes. Apart from that, Ayush Badoni also contributed with 50(34) runs hitting five fours and a six, while Abdul Samad also gave finishing touches with an unbeaten 30*(10) with four sixes. For RR, Wanindu Hasaranga took two wickets, while Sandeep Sharma, Tushar Deshpande and Jofra Archer scalped a wicket each.
Yashasvi Jaiswal's efforts goes vain as RR lose thriller against LSG
Chasing the winning target, RR got a flying start as Yashasvi Jaiswal and Vaibhav Suryavanshi put up an opening partnership of 85 runs in 8.4 overs. Playing his debut, 14-year-old Suryavanshi got out after scoring 34 runs off 20 balls hitting two fours and three sixes. Meanwhile, Yashasvi Jaiswal completed third consecutive fifty in just 31 balls. He added 62 runs for the third wicket with stand-in skipper Riyan Parag.
Yashasvi Jaiswal got out after scoring 74 runs off 52 balls hitting five fours and four sixes, while Riyan Parag scored 39 off 26 balls with three fours and two sixes. Both the batters were dimissed by Avesh Khan in the 18th over. However the situation got tricky when the match went down to the last over with RR needing nine runs from six balls. Avesh Khan dismissed Shimron Hetmyer on the third ball of the over as RR now needed six from three balls. After that, Shubham Dubey and Dhrub Jurel tried to take RR down the winning track but couldn't finish the game as LSG held their nerves to register a thrilling win.
