Afghanistan registered their biggest victory in terms of runs in the ODI format during the second against Zimbabwe in Harare. With the help of Sediqullah Atal’s century, Afghanistan posted 286/6 in their 50 overs. In reply, the bowlers did their part well as Zimbabwe were bowled out for just 54 runs and Afghanistan registered a mammoth victory by a huge margin of 232 runs, which is now the biggest win in terms of runs in the 50-over format.

Batting first, Afghanistan got a great start as Sediqulla Atal and Abdul Malik put up a partnership of 191 runs in 35 overs. Malik got out after scoring 84 runs off 101 balls hitting 11 fours and a maximum, while Atal top scored with 104 runs off 128 balls with the help of eight fours and four sixes. However, Afghanistan went on to lose quick wickets in the middle overs as the score was reduced to 228/4 in 42.4 overs. After that skipper Hashmatullah Shahidi and Mohammad Nabi added 47 runs for the fifth wicket.

Afghanistan register biggest win in ODI format

Captain Hashmatullah Shahidi remained unbeaten on 29*(30) runs with four boundaries as Afghanistan ended up posting 286/6 on board. After that, Afghan bowlers took charge as Zimbabwe kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Allah Ghazanfar and Naveed Zafran scalped three wickets, Apart from that, Fazalhaq Farooqi scalped two while Azmatullah Omarzai put one in his bag as Afghanistan bowled Zimbabwe out for just 54 runs in 17.5 overs to take a lead of 1-0. 

With this, Afghanistan registered their biggest victroy in terms of runs in the ODI format. Their previous record was against South Africa earlier in the year. Afghanistan defeated South Africa by 177 runs in Sharjah on September 20, 2024
