The Indian cricket team registered a commanding win by six wickets with 45 balls to spare against arch-rivals Pakistan in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 Group A clash at the Dubai International Stadium on Sunday, February 23. Virat Kohli, the former Indian captain, was the star of the show with his 51st ODI hundred, which came as he took his team past the finishing line, chasing down the 242-run target successfully.
For his splendid performance in Dubai, Virat Kohli was given the player of the match award once again in a contest against Pakistan, an opponent whom he has managed to dominate in limited-overs cricket for nearly a decade and a half. During his illustrious career, Virat Kohli has earned a whopping five player of the match awards for making a big contribution in India’s victories over Pakistan in ICC tournaments, but he isn’t the only one on the list.
Jasprit Bumrah, the Indian fast bowler, who was ruled out of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 due to a back injury, played a critical role in the previous two wins for India against Pakistan in ICC tournaments, for which he was adjudicated as the player of the match. Since 2014, Pakistan have won only two out of 10 ICC matches against India, and those victories were built around Shaheen Afridi and Fakhar Zaman’s individual brilliance.
Some of the other prominent names on the list include the current Indian captain Rohit Sharma and retired spinner Amit Mishra over the last decade or so.

If India and Pakistan fail to qualify through to the final of the ongoing Champions Trophy, then their next meeting in an ICC tournament could happen during the T20 World Cup 2026, a tournament which will be played in India and Sri Lanka. But, at the same time, according to an agreement between the ICC, BCCI, and the PCB, both Indian and Pakistan cricket teams won’t be playing any ICC event matches in the opposing country at least until 2027.
