The fast bowler registered figures of 17/159. Including eight wickets in the first innings and nine wickets in the second innings as England defeated South Africa by an innings and 12 runs.

The best bowling figures in a Test match belong to the former England cricketer Jim Laker. The off-spinner registered figures of 19/90 in a match against Australia in Manchester from July 26 to 31, 1956. He took nine wickets in the first innings and then made a record of clinching 10 wickets in the second innings as England won the match by 170 runs.
